Aswan is Egypt at its most relaxed: granite islands, white-sailed feluccas and colourful Nubian villages on the Nile. Our private Aswan tours combine the great temples – Abu Simbel, Philae, Kom Ombo and Edfu – with time on the river, guided by your own Egyptologist with pickup from your hotel or Nile cruise ship.

Ramses II’s two rock temples were cut into blocks and moved to higher ground between 1964 and 1968 to save them from Lake Nasser. About 280 km south of Aswan – roughly 3.5 hours by road or a short flight.

The Temple of Isis was moved stone by stone to Agilkia Island in the 1970s. It was one of the last places where the ancient Egyptian religion was practised.

In the ancient granite quarries lies an obelisk that would have stood about 42 metres tall had it not cracked. Nearby, the High Dam (completed 1970) created Lake Nasser.

Sail around Elephantine and Kitchener’s Island, then visit a Nubian village with painted houses, crafts and tea with a local family.

The double temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to Sobek and Horus, and the Temple of Horus at Edfu – one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt.

Around 22 February and 22 October the rising sun shines deep into the sanctuary of the Great Temple, lighting the statues inside.
