What is the Eternal Sun light show?

Eternal Sun is a new evening show at the Grand Egyptian Museum. According to the museum, it transforms the Grand Hall into a “living canvas” using projection mapping, lasers, dynamic lighting, music and bilingual storytelling, taking visitors on a journey “from darkness to light” that celebrates the enduring spirit of ancient Egyptian civilisation.

The museum has not published a detailed storyline, but the title and the theme of light after darkness echo a central idea of ancient Egyptian religion. The sun was at the centre of ancient Egyptian religion: the sun god Ra was believed to sail across the sky by day and through the underworld at night, to be reborn every morning. Kings linked themselves to the sun, and great temples such as Karnak in Luxor were dedicated to Amun-Ra. A show about moving from darkness to light, staged in a hall of pharaonic statues, fits that heritage well.

Where and when does the show take place?

The show takes place in the Grand Hall – the soaring entrance atrium of the Grand Egyptian Museum, next to the Giza Pyramids, where the 11-metre granite statue of Ramesses II stands. It starts on 1 November 2026, and visitors book a show time slot. The museum asks guests to arrive 30 minutes before their chosen slot.
